Zagreb honestly felt like an afterthought to us, we'd gladly have traded that final night for one more evening in Split. Everything up to it, especially that speedboat ride to the Blue Lagoon, was wonderful and worth the price.
Croatia surprised us as a couple, we'd expected pretty and got genuinely moving. The Dubrovnik ramparts at dawn and the Blue Lagoon swim were the postcard moments, but wandering Split's palace alleys with no plan at all was the underrated joy.
Walked the Dubrovnik city walls with my husband right at golden hour and it might be the most romantic thing we have ever done together. The whole terracotta skyline against the Adriatic just does not look real.
Plitvice Lakes left us both quiet for a good ten minutes, just staring at the waterfalls.
