As a solo female traveller I was a little nervous about Georgia before landing but Tbilisi put me completely at ease within the first day. Narikala Fortress gives you this sweeping view of the whole city with the river cutting through it, I went up twice just to watch the light change. Jvari Monastery was quieter and more spiritual, standing where two rivers meet felt genuinely moving even travelling alone. The old town is endlessly walkable and safe, I never once felt out of place exploring on my own pace. Four nights felt just right for a solo trip, enough to see everything without rushing.
Solid solo itinerary for a first timer in the Caucasus, the fortress and monastery visits were definitely the highlights. Wish there had been a bit more guidance on getting around using local transport instead of relying on cabs the whole time. Ended up spending more on taxis than I had budgeted simply because I was unsure of the local bus routes. That said, every single person I asked for directions went out of their way to help. Would still recommend Tbilisi to any solo traveller without hesitation.
Loved the freedom of setting my own pace here, no group to answer to and no rushed mornings. Jvari Monastery was easily the most peaceful spot on the whole trip.
Narikala Fortress at sunset gave me the best view of this whole solo trip.
Tbilisi itself is a gem and very manageable to explore solo, no complaints about safety or navigation. The only letdown was the restaurants right around the main fortress area, overpriced and clearly aimed squarely at tourists compared to the much better food I found a few streets away.
First proper solo trip and Tbilisi made it painless. Narikala Fortress hands you the whole city with the river cutting through, and I climbed up twice just to watch the light shift. Four nights flew by faster than I wanted.
June, when the weather is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring Tbilisi's outdoor attractions and vibrant streets.
