Bern's arcaded old town in the mornings and Lucerne's lake views in the afternoons never felt repetitive. This was our anniversary trip and it delivered on every romantic cliche we'd hoped for. Would book this exact itinerary again without changing a thing.

Kleine Scheidegg on a clear day gave us the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau all lined up, worth every step of the climb up. My wife cried a little, honestly, it was that beautiful.

Weather turned rainy for two of our five days which meant Kleine Scheidegg views were mostly clouds, bit unlucky timing. We still went up hoping it would clear but visibility stayed poor the whole time. Bern's old town was lovely regardless of weather so that part saved the trip somewhat. Would recommend building in a spare day for the mountain excursion given how weather dependent it is.
Five nights felt just about right, the only snag being how weather-dependent the mountain excursion is, and ours started grey. It cleared enough by noon to rescue the day, but do build in some flexibility.
