Visibility at the reef was a little murky the day we went because of recent rain, our guide said it is not always like that. We were a bit disappointed at first since the photos online look so much clearer. Still managed to see plenty of coral and a few turtles so no real complaints, and the boat crew made sure we got the best possible spots regardless. Mossman Gorge the next day more than made up for it with crystal clear water.

Cairns turned out to be the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation for our anniversary trip. Snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef together was surreal, coral in colours we did not know existed and fish swimming right up to our masks. Mossman Gorge's cool water the next day was such a nice contrast after the reef heat, felt genuinely connected to the rainforest around us. Skyrail ride above the canopy gave us views all the way to the ocean, we just sat in silence taking it in. Ended the whole trip with a quiet dinner on the Esplanade, watching the water and reflecting on six really special nights.

Six nights was just enough to slow right down. We snorkelled the reef, wandered Mossman Gorge with an Indigenous guide who read the forest like a book, and closed each evening with a quiet dinner on the Esplanade watching the water go dark.
