Blue Lagoon near Split was gorgeous for snorkelling with the kids, clear water and lots of little fish to spot. Zagreb felt a bit disconnected from the coastal charm of the earlier days though, more of a city stopover.
Zagreb at the end felt like a proper little city break to round off ten memorable nights with the children.
Split's old town architecture was stunning to wander through with the kids pointing at every corner. Only downside was the drive up to Zagreb felt quite long after an already packed coastal leg.
The City Walls of Dubrovnik were the surprise hit of all ten nights, our two treated the fortress walk like a real-life castle adventure and didn't moan once about the steps. The sea views from the top had even the grown-ups gasping. Rare to find something that lands for a seven-year-old and a grandparent at the same time.
Grandparents loved the slower pace of Split after the busier days walking Dubrovnik's walls.
Croatia was not originally on our radar for a family trip but this itinerary changed our minds completely. Split's Diocletian's Palace gave the kids a proper history lesson without them even realising it. Elafiti Islands swimming stop was calm and safe enough even for our younger one who cannot swim well yet. Ten nights across Dubrovnik, Split and Zagreb felt just the right length for a family of four.
