Tbilisi completely stole the show for us while the train transfer down to Batumi took far longer than expected, we barely had time to settle in before it was already time to head back, would have liked at least one more day by the Black Sea.
Georgia was not even on our radar until a friend mentioned it and now we cannot stop recommending this exact Tbilisi to Batumi route to every couple we know. Jvari Monastery overlooking where the two rivers meet felt genuinely ancient and moving, we just sat there for a while not saying much. The cable car up to Narikala Fortress at sunset with all of Tbilisi lit up below is one of the most romantic half hours of our whole trip. The scenic train ride down to Batumi was relaxing after a few busy days in the capital. Batumi's Dancing Fountains on our last evening were a lovely, unexpected way to end things.
Underrated destination for couples, Tbilisi's old town has a charm very few places in Europe still have.
Train from Tbilisi to Batumi is scenic for sure but it does run longer than expected, pack some snacks and patience. Once in Batumi the boulevard evening walks made up for the tiring journey.
Eight nights gave us the best of both worlds, the old-town romance of Tbilisi and the breezy seafront of Batumi. The scenic train between them let us just sit back and watch the country roll past. A brilliant range of a trip for a couple.
The Dancing Fountains in Batumi were so beautifully choreographed we watched them twice from different spots along the boulevard. After a fairly packed week it was the perfect low-key finish, my wife and I just leaning on the railing by the sea.
