Georgia's Heartbeat: A Family Sojourn Through Historic Tbilisi

Tbilisi surprised us as a family destination, quiet and safe enough for our kids to explore a little on their own near the market. The river walk in the evening was probably our favourite unplanned moment of the whole trip.

We took our two kids to Tbilisi not really knowing what to expect from Georgia and came back pleasantly surprised. Svetitskhoveli Cathedral was grander than any of us imagined, and the kids were fascinated by the old stories the guide shared. Jvari Monastery's panoramic views over the river confluence were a highlight for my husband especially. The market visit was fun though our younger one got a bit overwhelmed by the crowd and noise, so plan for shorter bursts there with little ones.

Our first evening strolling along the Mtkvari River, city lights shimmering on the water, set the loveliest tone for the trip. The kids were straight into bargaining with the market vendors for little keepsakes the very next day.

Warm June days in Tbilisi were perfect for a family with young children, not too hot, not too cold. Our first evening walking along the Mtkvari River with the city lights reflecting on the water was such a gentle, beautiful welcome. Jvari Monastery the next day gave us all a real sense of history standing where two rivers meet below ancient stone walls. Svetitskhoveli Cathedral's scale left the kids in awe, and the market afterwards let them pick their own little keepsakes. Three nights felt just right for a first family trip to Georgia.

Lovely destination for kids, just wish the market visit had more shade and seating for tired little legs.
