Dotonbori at night in Osaka was sensory overload in the best possible way. A bit much for our youngest by the second hour though, so we cut that evening a little short.
Family trip of a lifetime, honestly, from bullet trains to peaceful shrines the kids stayed engaged throughout. Osaka's food scene at the end was the perfect high energy finish.
We built Mt Fuji up for weeks and then it sat behind thick cloud both times we tried, which stung the kids after all that hype. The rest of the Tokyo leg went perfectly, so my advice is simply not to promise them a guaranteed view of that mountain.
Floating torii gate at Miyajima during high tide was the most magical thing our kids have ever seen. Cameras were out the entire time we were on the island.
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park moved all four of us more than we expected going in.
The bullet train alone made the whole week for our speed-obsessed eight-year-old.
