First trip to Malaysia for the two of us and this gave us the perfect introduction across three completely different settings. Chinatown's food scene in KL was chaotic in the best way, we ate more in two hours there than we usually do in a full day at home. The Langkawi freshwater lake stop felt like a hidden gem tucked away from the usual tourist trail, hardly any other visitors around when we went. Penang Hill rounded things off nicely with views that made the whole trip feel like three holidays packed into one.
Went in June knowing it was the start of monsoon and got caught out twice with sudden downpours that cut our Langkawi boat time short. The itinerary itself is solid, just pick a shoulder month if you can help it.
Three cities in five nights and each one had its own personality. KL gave us the Petronas Towers at night, Langkawi slowed things down with the Kilim mangrove cruise, and Penang closed it out with street food that we're still thinking about.

The eagles circling above the boat during the Kilim Geoforest Park cruise were unexpected, our guide pointed out at least four of them. Dayang Bunting's freshwater lake was a strange and lovely contrast to the sea all around it, we swam there longer than planned. Penang Hill at sunset rounded off the trip with views neither of us will forget in a hurry.
