An enchanting day trip offering a glimpse into Austria's natural splendour, away from the city's bustling centre.
Chose Innsbruck as a quieter alternative to the usual European city breaks for couples and it mostly paid off. Old Town under the evening lights on our first night set a lovely tone. Swarovski Crystal Worlds was quirky and fun, good for an easy half day together. Farewell dinner of Austrian classics was a nice sentimental close, though service that evening was noticeably slow.
Swarovski Crystal Worlds was more of a novelty than we expected but still a fun couple of hours together. Cable car queue for Hafelekar cut into our afternoon plans more than we'd have liked.
Standing atop Hafelekar with my partner, the Alps stretched below us, was worth the whole trip on its own. Swarovski's art installations afterward felt like a fun, slightly surreal contrast.
We packed a lot into three nights but it never felt rushed: the Golden Roof and its lanes in the morning, the cable car to Hafelekar after lunch, and a Tyrolean dinner to close.
Hafelekar's summit panorama on a clear afternoon is the kind of view you plan a whole trip around.
We chose Innsbruck over the usual big European cities and I'm glad we did, quieter, greener, and ours. Evening walks by the Inn with the peaks going pink were the highlight for both of us.
June to September offers pleasant weather, vibrant city life, and ideal conditions for exploring both the city and its surrounding alpine landscapes.
