Filipino lunch tucked inside Intramuros ended up being the meal we still talk about months later. Casa Manila's courtyard was a peaceful break from the walking tour. Evenings in the old town felt romantic without trying too hard.
Went for our first anniversary and Manila delivered more history and charm than we expected from a short city break. The Intramuros walk in the evening, hand in hand past the old fort walls, set the tone for the whole trip. Lunch at a small eatery inside the walled city was the best meal we had all week, simple but full of flavour. Three nights was just right for this pace.
Intramuros at night lit up beautifully and walking through those old walls with my husband felt like stepping into another century. San Agustin Church interior was stunning, far grander than photos suggest. Casa Manila the next morning gave us a good sense of colonial life before the afternoon heat set in.
Casa Manila museum was a lovely surprise, small but full of character.
San Agustin Church and Fort Santiago were genuinely impressive but the souvenir sellers right outside got quite pushy, following us for a good stretch. Heat in the afternoon made walking around Intramuros tiring by day two. Food was good throughout though, no complaints there.
Manila is not the first place we thought of for a romantic weekend but the walled city changed our minds quickly. San Agustin Church needed more time than we gave it, would allocate an extra hour there next visit. Otherwise a well paced short trip for the two of us.
