Reykjavik itself has a compact charm that works well with kids, everything within walking distance of our base.
Most of the sights on this trip were wonderful but the Golden Circle day involved a lot of driving with two restless kids in the back, closer to what felt like an eight hour day trip than the leisurely pace we were told to expect. Strokkur was worth the wait though.
Watching Strokkur erupt with our kids jumping back in surprise every single time was worth the whole trip on its own. Thingvellir gave us a proper geography lesson standing literally between two continents, something the children still bring up at school. Hallgrimskirkja's view over the rooftops was the perfect photo stop before heading back for the evening.
Three nights, yet the Golden Circle alone gave the children more wide-eyed moments than trips twice its length.
Harpa's architecture caught our attention more than we expected, and the harbour area around it made for a relaxed evening after a busy day of sightseeing with kids.
