Switzerland with kids is expensive to eat out in, meals near the Bern old town especially, but the sights make up for it. We started self catering breakfast to balance things a bit.
Transfers between Bern and Lucerne with two tired children were the toughest part of an otherwise scenic trip. By the time we reached the hotel most evenings everyone was cranky and hungry. The sights themselves, especially Kleine Scheidegg, were absolutely worth it despite the tiredness. Just wish the connections between the two cities had been timed a little better for young kids.
Jungfrau region from Kleine Scheidegg is one of those views that makes you go quiet, even the children stopped chattering. We packed extra layers since it gets properly cold up there even in summer. Lucerne afterward felt gentler and more relaxed by comparison, a nice contrast for the second half of the trip. Five nights across the two cities suited our family of four really well.
The Lake Lucerne boat ride was calm and lovely, but we turned up on a Saturday and the ticket queue tested everyone's patience, kids included. Book ahead if you can, we learned the hard way. Otherwise a smooth family week.
