Switzerland is expensive everywhere but Lucerne felt like reasonable value for what we experienced. The lake, the mountains, and the old bridge all in one compact town made sightseeing easy without a car. Lion Monument was a nice quiet stop away from the tourist buzz. Only wish we had planned a day trip up to the mountains while we were there.
Lucerne is compact enough to explore easily on foot. Lake cruise was the standout activity for us.
Old Town got quite crowded with day trippers by afternoon, harder to enjoy the quieter romantic vibe we expected. Mornings and evenings were much better for exploring.
